my daughter, Lisa, used to have a security blanket that she depended on for being able to sleep comfortably. It even had a name. “Guy” was one of those crocheted infant blankets that my Mother had made for her and she just felt comfort when it was near.
Sometimes if she fell asleep in a place other than her bed and if we moved her and she became undetached from Guy, in her sleep she would recognize it’s feel and her hands would find the edge and then would inch by inch creep along the edge till that special corner was home in her hands again and then comfortable sleep would return.
One day she came to us with Guy and announced that she wanted to trade Guy for a record player. We bought her a little record player and she put Guy in a dresser drawer. We took Guy out of the drawer to put into her hands when she went to sleep and found that even in her sleep, she was no longer dependant on Guy for her well–feeling.

I should mention that the last few images of Lisa and Seth were made almost thirty years ago. Lisa now has children of her own–Cody Forest, Parker Canyon, and Jaden Meadow are about the ages Lisa and Seth were in these images.
